A group under the auspices of ‘Nollywood 4 Igbo’ Presidency has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to support an Igbo presidency in 2023.
The group in a statement signed by its Convener, Nzeh Frankwhite, in Abuja, stated that the need for an Igbo President was necessary, as the ethnic group has been a major contributor to the GDP growth of Nigeria in the last 30 years.
Further highlighting the role of the Igbo ethnic group in building the image of Nigeria on the international front, the group urged President Buhari that his support of an Igbo successor would put his name in gold amongst other benefits.
“We call for all political leaders of good conscience and have the interest of the nation at heart to support the call for the political leadership of this country be ceded to the Igbos in 2023.
“It is instructive to note that the enterprising spirit of the average Igbo man, which has been internationally acknowledged, was brought to bear in the evolution process of this great industry that is presently one of the nations highest employers of labour, hence their role at the formative stage of the present day Nollywood cannot be overemphasised, little wonder most Igbo titles, cliches, idiomatic expressions, etc. easily became the most convenient means of referring to Nigeria and Nigerians abroad, by foreigners whose only point of contact with Nigeria was through the popular Nollywood movies that were making waves in various parts of Asia, Europe and America. These are incontrovertible facts of our national historical development
“We call on the president of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, to support a successor from the South Eastern part of Nigeria and boldly have his name written in gold in the political anals of this country,” the group said.
