Following threats of planned attacks by insurgents, as well as increasing wave of banditry in neighbouring states like Kaduna, Kogi, Nasarawa and more recently Niger States, there has been massive intelligence gathering and military/police presence in the nation’s capital, Abuja.
It would be recalled that remote cities like Pyegi, Kuje, Tuganmaje, Gwagwalada, amongst others have experienced some form of kidnapping and banditry in recent times.
According to sources, security was beefed up at specific places over the city capital. Places like the National Assembly and the Nnamdi Azikiwe airport are said have more security presence.
There was also increased presence of troops, police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, personnel and intelligence operatives at the three strategic entrances to the city notably, Keffi, Zuba and Gwagwalada.
The security situation in and around the FCT was heightened by the pronouncement of the Niger State Governor, Mr. Sani Bello, during the week.
Niger state is about two hours, thirty minutes drive away from the FCT.
The Governor had stated that Boko Haram fighters sacked 50 villages in the state and hoisted their flags in conquered territory.
