Killer herdsmen on Thursday attacked Kizachi Chawai village in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing 11 persons and razing down 64 houses.
The Community Secretary, John Wani who reported the incident, said women and children were main targets after the herdsmen breached the community at 6:30 p.m, shooting sporadically.
He said many of the villagers have fled the village, while many others are still missing, as those who could not run were killed.
Wani added that so far, 11 corpses have been discovered, in the incident which was said to have lasted for more than three hours despite military presence at Kiffin Chawai, another village two kilometres away.
Three other victims of the attack reportedly sustained injuries from gunshots and were taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
Speaking at an expanded meeting of the state security council recently, Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-rufai said private citizens could preach to bandits to repent, but his administration will not.
“We will not engage with bandits or kidnappers. Private citizens like clerics and clergymen can do so in their individual capacities, to preach to them and ask them to repent. We also want them to repent but it is not our job to ask them to do so,” he stated.
