Chelsea lost some quality young players in the past who are now among the best in the football world. The likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Mohamed Salah and Romelu Lukaku are three notable names that have gone ahead to become world beaters.
The club had since vowed not to make such mistakes again, and the club avoided that mistake with Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The 20-year-old burst onto the scene as a teenager and took to first team football for both club and country as a fish to water. At some point two years ago, he was the most dangerous player in the Chelsea team and kept improving with each game. He also looked very confident in his displays for the Three Lions.
However, his development was cut short by an Achille injury, and since his recovery, he hasn’t looked anywhere near his best.
Bayern Munich came last year to tempt him with a juicy offer and also tempted Chelsea with a transfer bid of around £34m for a teenager who was missing his form.
The Bavarians knew that there was a talent in the Blues academy product, and were willing to give him a massive chance, including the No. 10 shirt and a juicy salary, as they saw him as the future for the departing Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.
Chelsea managed to keep hold of the youngster and gave him a juicy offer to stay, while waiting for his form to return. At some point, it looked like the Hudson-Odoi we saw break out from the academy with a bang may never come back.
But the winger is returning back to his brilliant best as many have agreed that he’s currently the most in-form player in the Chelsea team and the most dangerous in attack, when you consider that the Blues have attacking talents like Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.
Hudson-Odoi has been making a case with his performances in recent weeks, and even Frank Lampard has admitted that he can’t keep him on the bench any longer.
