The Okigwe South Police Area Command headquarters in Orieagu, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State has been attacked again.
Confirming the attack, the state’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Orlando Ikokwu said the attackers stormed the police facility at about 7p.m. and opened fire.
Ikokwu further revealed that the attackers released suspects in custody in the police facility, added that at the armory was looted in the process.
While noting that at least five policemen who put up a fight were gunned down, Ikokwu noted that the police station was not razed in the attack.
The PPRO also confirmed that eight people were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre Owerri after another attack around Orji part of Owerri North local government area.
The men were said to be trailing an unmarked vehicle, after which they shot sporadically to escape and in the process got people injured.
In past few weeks, there has been intensed insecurity in the Southeast with attacks mostly on police and other security agencies and operatives.
States including Imo, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi and Abia have witnessed similar attacks.
As a result, prison inmates at Owerri correctional centre escaped and most of them are still at large after gunmen struck and let them loose.
