2020 has been one hell of a year for Nigerians at home. We largely survived the Covid-19 pandemic and in the process, flirt with possibilities of slipping into another recession. Just when it seems the storm is over – boom! harmattan is coming.
Yes, you read that right. The dry season is slowly creeping back. In fact, some states in Northern Nigeria are beginning to experience harmattan in full swing.
Although the weather condition is seemingly trivial for the NCDC to bore us Harmattan-20/21 updates, it behoves us to guard against falling victims of harmattan-related sicknesses.
How do you survive harmattan?
1. Wear Face Caps:
You don’t only need face caps to look fashionable. The creeping harmattan promises scorching sun at mid-day. Likewise, you should promise yourself of not getting facial burns by getting a cap. Your head will also need such shield to ward off dust.
2. Jump into Comfortable Clothing:
Harmattan season, as we know it is characterized by chilly mornings and hot mid-days. Thus, it is necessary that you wear comfortable and breathable cotton clothing that can ward off colds in the morning and adjust to the heat at noon.
3. Get Sunglasses:
The eye needs more protection than your face and hair. It is crucial that you wear sunglasses to shield your eyes from rampaging dust and dirt. Wearing sunglasses will also add an edgy look to your outfit.
4. Pocket Lip Balm:
You really don’t want to be seen with chapped lips during harmattan. Neither would you fancy licking your lips like a kid in a candy store. This is why you should carry lip balm in your pocket or purse for easy access whenever your lips feel/get dry.
5. Eat Fruits and Vegetables
Chances of replenishing your skin’s natural shine with lotion during harmattan are slim. You need to boost the glowy campaign by consuming fruits and vegetables for best results.
6. Drink Water
Ever heard of “stay hydrated to stay healthy?” The catchphrase is more pertinent in harmattan period when your body needs enough water to boost immunity against the dry season-related sicknesses like the common flu. It wouldn’t hurt to have a bottle of water close by at all times.
