Angeles Bejar, the mother of the suspended Spanish Soccer Federation’s President, Luis Rubiales, has been rushed to the hospital after she felt tired and exhausted.
This is happening days after she started a hunger strike in support of her son.
Bejar had locked herself in a church in her hometown of Motril in southern Spain to protest the treatment of her son in a furore over kissing World Cup player Jenni Hermoso on the mouth.
Rubiales is currently under a 90-day suspension by FIFA, a measure which took effect last Saturday.
According to a Reuters report, her mother was taken to hospital in Motril on Wednesday night, quoting a priest, who identified himself as father Antonio.
However, the hospital – The Santa Ana couldn’t confirm if Bejar was admitted.
In the wake of the suspension, FIFA disciplinary committee also ordered Rubiales and RFEF officials and employees alike to refrain from contacting or attempting to contact Hermoso or those around her.
Rubiales had been expected to announce his resignation last Friday but instead said he would not step down.
He also threatened legal action to defend him after Hermoso said she did not consent to the kiss he gave her.
The Spanish national team that won the World Cup, as well as several other players have said they would not play international matches while Rubiales remains head of the federation.
