Arsenal winger, Nicolas Pepe has apologised to Arsenal fans after being shown a red card in the goalless draw against Leeds.
The Ivorian headbutted Leeds wing-back Ezgjan Alioski in the second half of Sunday’s match and was consequently issued a red card following a VAR review.
Pepe wrote on Instagram: “Yesterday I have let my team down at a crucial time of the game and there is no excuses for my behaviour,” “I am deeply sorry and would like to apologise to the fans, my team-mates, my coach and everyone else at the club.”
The Gunners had to play the rest of the remaining 40 minutes with a one-man short and were lucky to come out of the fixture without conceding.
Mikel Arteta, who come out to condemn Pepe’s conduct, citing it as unacceptable will face a stiffer challenge this time as his creativity crisis at Arsenal seemed to have intensified.
Arsenal have not scored from open play in the last couple of Premier League games despite the shift in position for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Pepe faces a three-match ban ahead of the hectic December schedule of matches.
The clashes against Wolves, the north London derby with high-flying Tottenham and the trip to Burnley are three of the matches Pepe would miss for Arsenal before Christmas.
