Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has said one of the three Covid 19 tests he took on Wednesday came out positive.
While delivering the State of the Nation Address, Museveni said he had shown symptoms of Corona Virus, prompting the test.
The Daily Monitor quotes the President as saying, ‘’this morning, I was feeling as if I had a cold. I took a rapid Coronavirus test which indicated negative. However, my samples were taken for a deeper analysis. One was negative and the other positive,”
“So, I am a suspect of Corona as I speak. That’s why I came in a separate car with Maama.”he said.
In his Address, Museveni noted that his government has strengthened its health systems over the last three years.
This includes equipping regional and national referral hospitals.
Further, 225 health centre IIs have been renovated and upgraded to health centre IIIs.
“In addition, we have strengthened the capacity of the country in vaccine development,” he said.
Uganda will now focus on preventative measures to sustainably improve health services.
This will be achieved through measures including timely supplies of drugs to address stock-outs as well as provision of relevant medical equipment, prevention and control of Communicable Diseases through immunization and emphasising, through radio programmes, the importance of nutrition, and hygiene.
