Nigeria’s U19 Women’s Cricket team will on Saturday, 25 January 2025, face England in the ongoing ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia. This is after the Nigerian side progressed, having finished second in Group C behind South Africa.
The Junior Female Yellow Greens ended their group campaign with a 41-run (Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method) defeat against South Africa on Wednesday. However, the Nigerian team’s historic two-run win over New Zealand on Monday, as well as the share of points against Samoa, was more than enough to see them through as the second-best team in Group C.
Final Group Match
Nigeria’s Junior Female Yellow Greens lost to the South Africans, who won the final group game by 41 runs to lead the group. The Nigerian team won the toss and elected to bowl first. The match saw Edo-born Lucky Piety, captain of Team Nigeria, picking the first wicket for the Nigerian girls before a downpour.
In the first innings, South Africa scored 49 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in 8 overs, while Team Nigeria, in the second innings, had 24 runs, 8 wickets with 8 overs, ending the game with 41 runs in favour of South Africa.
Following their match against England, the Nigerian women will engage Ireland on 29 January 2025.
