Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, continued his somewhat resurgence in the current English Premier League (EPL) on Saturday.
His dazzling moments helped his side Leicester City maul visiting Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 at King Power stadium.
It was an encounter that the Nigerian international scored a goal and set up another in Leicester’s win, despite Spurs first goal of the match.
Tottenham had opened the scoring on 14th minute. The ball rebounded to Rodrigo Bentancur after a melee in the box, and he easily beat the keeper from close range.
With this victory, Iheanacho has now scored in three consecutive matches, and laid assists along the way for good measure.
Earlier, Arsenal missed the opportunity to move eight points clear at the top as Ivan Toney headed in a deserved equaliser for Brentford to earn a 1-1 draw at the Emirates.
The Gunners had been on course to bounce back from defeat at Everton and move well clear of their title rivals Manchester City, who can reduce the gap against Aston Villa on Sunday before playing Arsenal on Wednesday, when Leandro Trossard tapped home just five minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute.
Also, Chelsea’s hopes of securing a top-four finish were left hanging by a thread as a goal from their former player Emerson Palmieri clinched a 1-1 draw for West Ham at the London Stadium.
Graham Potter’s new-look side started strongly and looked like they might subject the hosts to a punishing afternoon when January signings Enzo Fernandez and Joao Felix combined for the latter’s first Chelsea goal at 16 minutes on his return from suspension.
But West Ham weathered the early storm and capitalised on poor Chelsea defending when Jarrod Bowen flicked on Vladimir Coufal’s cross, allowing the unmarked Emerson to score at the far post (28).
Chelsea, held to goalless draws in their previous two games, once again struggled to break their opponents down after that and West Ham thought they had won it late on when Tomas Soucek scored from close range, only for VAR to rule it out for offside.
There was another major flashpoint in the final few minutes as Chelsea were denied a penalty after Soucek appeared to handle a low shot from Conor Gallagher, but VAR did not intervene, the draw leaving the Blues in ninth place and piling more pressure on Potter.
