Former Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles Austin Eguavoen believes he can still lead the national team again if offered another chance.
Eguavoen led the Super Eagles to the AFCON in Cameroon with just three weeks to the start of the competition after Coach Gernot Rohr was fired by the NigeriaFootball Federation (NFF).
However, the 57-year-old’s appointment was met with huge disappointment as he failed to get the Super Eagles past the round of 16 in the AFCON and losing the World Cup ticket to Ghana, leading the way for his resignation few days later.
Speaking in the wake of his resignation, Eguavoen has refused to rule out the possibility of coaching the Nigeria national team in the future, while also noting he feels no regret taking up the job in the first place.
“If there is still an opportunity for me, I will want to coach the Eagles again, but not at this moment, maybe later,” Eguavoen said on a Sports’ program, Monday Night Football.
“If I’m called upon to lead the team again, I will definitely take up the job. I’m still one of the good coaches in the country. I can still prove a point it’s just a matter of time.
“No regrets taking up the job. When you are called to serve the nation I could not refuse.”
Eguavoen has since returned to his previous role as the Technical Director of the Super Eagles after his resignation.
