After helping Leicester City win their first Community Shield title in 50 years, Kelechi Iheanacho says he’s not in goal scoring competition with the club’s dangerous frontline of Patson Daka, James Maddison and Jamie Vardy.
Iheanacho came off the bench for Brendan Rodgers’ team with just over 10 minutes on the clock and made an immediate impact, scoring from the penalty spot to seal a 1-0 win over Manchester City on Saturday.
Iheanacho speaking after the match, debunked reports of competition among the team’s attacking players, stating that all the attackers are important.
“We’re not in a battle in our team,” he told the club website.
“Everybody is important. We need everybody to get through this season. There are a lot of competitions, so we need everyone.
“Patson [Daka] will be important to the squad. Me as well. Vards (Jamie Vardy), Madders (James Maddison) – everyone is important in the squad.
“We are together as a team and as a family. I’ll keep working hard and at the end of the season, we’ll see what happens.”
The 24-year-old’s effort against the Citizens was his 40th goal for the King Power Stadium outfit and his second trophy with the former Premier League champions after last season’s FA Cup triumph.
Iheanacho joined the Foxes from Manchester City in 2017 and has made over 100 appearances for them in all competitions.
