Nigeria appears set for Friday’s international friendly game against perennial rivals Cameroon at the Stadion Wiener Neustadt in Austria.
The three time African champions will go into the clash with the Indomitable Lions on the back of an unbeaten streak of five matches.
Gernot Rohr’s men will hope to extend the run in the double-header as they have not lost a game since beaten 1-0 by reigning African champions Algeria in an international friendly in October 2020.
Consequently, Nigeria played out a 1-1 draw with Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles in a friendly match; drew 4-4 and 0-0 with Sierra Leone in back-to-back 2021 AFCON qualifying matches in November 2020; defeated Benin Republic 1-0 in Porto Novo in another 2021 AFCON qualifier and; thumped Lesotho 3-0 in the finale to the 2021 AFCON qualifying race in Lagos.
Before now, the match against Cameroon was thrown into doubt following the withdrawal of several Super Eagles players owing to some contrasting degrees of injuries.
However, late call ups were handed to defenders, Valentine Ozornwafor and Anthony Izuchukwu to help solve Rohr’s back-four crisis, with the likes of Zaidu Sanusi, Leon Balogun, Ola Aina and Tyronne Ebuehi pulling out of the encounter.
Both fierce rivals on the African continent will again clash in a second game also at the Stadion Wiener Neustadt in Vienna on Tuesday.
Sparta Trnava’s Izuchukwu joined up with the Nigeria camp at the Hilton Garden Inn, Wiener Neustadt Osterreich on Wednesday, moving the needle on the number of players in camp to 21.
