Scarcity of petrol may soon hit Nigeria as the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria PENGASSAN has ordered oil workers to commence a nationwide strike.
The order to embark on the industrial action which begins today was contained in a letter signed by the General Secretary of the association, Lumumba Okugbawa.
The letter dated November 8, 2020, explained that the decision to embark on strike was in reaction to a breach in the agreement of Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) implementation between the association ad the federal government.
The Heritage Times gathered that the oil workers’ have a lingering disagreement with the federal government over the directive on the registration of some of its members on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS).
Although discussions over the issues have been going on for some time, the oil workers have accused the government of not making concrete moves to settle the differences.
It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had in October, warned that all federal government workers not captured on the IPPIS platform by October 31, 2019, would not be paid their monthly salaries.
The move according to him is a part of efforts geared towards managing high personnel costs in line with his administration’s commitment to fighting corruption.
