An Israeli strike has claimed the life of a senior Hamas commander, Ayman Nofal, at the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza
According to the Associated Press, Nofal was considered the highest-profile militant casualty in the ongoing conflict.
Nofal held a key role in overseeing Hamas militant activities within central Gaza and played a part in establishing the “joint operations” room that facilitated coordination among Hamas, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and other militants in the region.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, on Tuesday, expressed that Israel’s response to Hamas is aimed at eliminating the group’s control over both the political and military aspects in Gaza.
He emphasized that this effort is not just Israel’s own struggle but one that represents the interests of all civilized nations and peoples.
Israel has positioned its troops along the border in anticipation of a potential ground offensive, although no definitive decisions have been reached.
Despite the mass evacuation order issued by Israel for the northern part of the Gaza Strip, no concrete actions have been taken.
Over a million Palestinians, roughly half of Gaza’s population, have been displaced from their homes, with approximately 60% now residing within the 14-kilometer (8-mile) stretch south of the evacuation zone, as reported by the United Nations.
Aid workers have issued grave warnings about the dire situation in the territory, stating that it is on the brink of total collapse.
Hospitals are at risk of losing power, endangering the lives of thousands of patients, and hundreds of thousands of people are in desperate search of basic necessities like bread and water.
