Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has predicted a tough duel when his side files out today against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone for the group L encounter of the AFCON qualifiers.
Nigeria looks good to extend their lead at the top of the group. But Rohr disclosed that his team will go for an early lead.
“It won’t be easy because we have to play under tough African conditions with players who are coming from the cold in Europe,” warned Rohr ahead of the West African clash.
“We will play simple, go quickly to goal and score, but sometimes you also have to be patient.”
The Eagles coach said he also expects a physical battle against the Leone Stars.
“We cannot underrate Sierra Leone because there are no small teams any longer,” warned Rohr.
“They have good players in the US, like (Kei) Kamara, Spain, Switzerland, big football countries.
“They played against Mauritania last month and the coach, who is a friend, told me they are a good team, strong physically, play long balls and good aerially with several tall players.
“So, we have to be ready for such challenge.”
Nigeria lead their AFCON qualifying group with six points from two matches, while Sierra Leone are third in the standings with a point.
Benin have three points, while Lesotho are bottom on a point.
Kick-off today is 5pm local time at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City
