Alessandro Marconati, the son of prominent Zimbabwe-based Italian tycoon Francesco Marconati, is currently on the run from the police.
Authorities seek to arrest him for contempt of court due to his failure to complete a court-ordered community service at Inyathi Police Station in Matebeleland North province of Zimbabwe.

In April, Alessandro and his father were sentenced to 105 hours of community service instead of jail time for making threats against Li Song, a Chinese businesswoman who had been their business partner.
The senior Marconati, aged 65, was recently arrested and spent several days in jail for contempt of court related to the same case. A magistrate later ordered Francesco to complete the remaining 14 hours of his community service at Borrowdale Police Station in Harare on June 17-18, 2024.
Li Song, who has a complex history with the Marconatis as both a business partner and Francesco’s romantic companion for 18 years, claims that neither Francesco nor Alessandro had completed their initial 105 hours of community service as mandated.
Francesco Marconati is a well-known figure in Zimbabwe’s gold, leather products, and hospitality sectors. His legal troubles and subsequent arrest have drawn significant attention, given his influence and the high-profile nature of the case. Li Song, despite her controversial status, has been vocal about the Marconatis’ failure to comply with their court-ordered community service, adding another layer of intrigue to the ongoing saga.
The police are intensifying their efforts to locate Alessandro Marconati, who remains elusive. The case highlights issues of accountability and justice, particularly involving influential individuals in Zimbabwe’s business community.
As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the Marconatis will navigate their legal challenges and what impact this will have on their business operations and public standing.
