As part of regional sanctions, the Ivory Coast Government said on Tuesday that it had halted all imports and exports of products from Niger.
The “Republic of Cote d’Ivoire” (formally referred to as “Ivory Coast”) is home to an estimated 30 million people.
It is renowned for its stunning UNESCO World Heritage sites and beautiful beaches.
The Ivory Coast has a sizable economy within the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU). It is the world’s largest exporter of raw cashew nuts, cocoa beans, and oil.
Meanwhile, leaders of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have given the Gen. Abdourahamane Tchiani-led junta a one-week ultimatum, urging him to restore constitutional order in the country promptly.
Failure to do so may result in military intervention by regional countries to address the instability.
