Nigeria’s Super Eagles performance has gone from bad to worse in the ongoing 2026 World Cup qualifying series after they succumbed to Benin Republic defeat.
The match actually ended 2-1 in favour of Benin’s Cheetahs coached by Gernot Rohr.
The Benoise team have amased seven points so far as against Nigeria’s three points after playing four matches.
It was the first loss for the Super Eagles in the qualifiers and they languish second from bottom of Group C with three points from four matches.
Benin, led by former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, shot to the top of the standings on seven points.
Raphael Onyedika gave the Super Eagles the lead in the 27th minute to crown a bright start for the visitors.

But the Benin boys equalised and eventually won thereafter.
Matchday 5 of the qualifiers will resume in March 2025.
Nigeria didn’t feature at the 2022 mundial in Qatar after the Super Eagles failed to qualify.
