Jubilation is on in Botswana, day after their athlete Letsile Tebogo won gold at the ongoing Olympic Games in Paris, France.
Tebogo on Thursday toppled others in the final of the 200m including America’s Noah Lyles who finished third.
Wowed by Tebogo’s performance, Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi gave the citizens and residents of his country an afternoon to further celebrate the nation’s first gold medallist.
Tebogo is also the first African to be crowned 200m Olympic champion.
Frankie Fredericks from Namibia won silver in Barcelona in 1992 and Atlanta in 1996.
Added to Tebogo’s exploits, he also set an African record of 19.46 seconds, just as he was the second African man to win medal in 200m event.
