Tennis great, Novak Djokovic, on Sunday outclassed Carlos Alcaraz 7-6, 7-6 in straight sets to win the first men’s singles Olympics gold in Paris.
The victory happened for Djokovic after he battled a tightly contested final held at the Philippe Chatrier Stadium in Roland Garros.
The Olympics gold was the only title missing from his prestigious career.
Alcaraz, making his Olympic debut, showcased his immense talent and potential by earning the silver medal.
The bronze went to Italian Lorenzo Musetti, who defeated Canadian Felix Auger Aliassime in another intense match.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Favour Ofili has qualified for the semi-final of women’s 200m at the ongoing Paris Olympics Games in France.
Ofili booked her place in the semi-final after executing a good race plan to win heat 6 in a time of 22.24s on Sunday morning.
She defeated Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith, who finished 2nd in 22.28s and Gina Bass-Bittaye 3rd in 22.84s.
This is coming days after Ofili disclosed that she would not take part in the 100m race at the Olympics, after she was excluded despite qualifying due to administrative failures by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, (AFN), and the Nigerian Olympic Committee, (NOC).
