Former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari was on Sunday arrested by operatives of Nigeria’s anti-graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Yari was reportedly arrested at his Maitama residence in Abuja, over alleged connection with the Commission’s ongoing investigation of the suspended Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Ahmed Idris.
The AGF has been in the EFCC custody since May 16, facing investigators over allegations of corruption to the tune of N80 billion.
Investigators are said to be working with the lead that he allegedly conspired with others to steal public funds which, by his role, he was meant to safeguard.
Sources say Yari is a suspected accomplices in the alleged N80bn fraud. The sources adds that suspicious transactions ensued between Idris and Yari “in the area of N20 billion.”
While EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren said he was not briefed about the incident, other sources at the commission confirmed Yari’s arrest.
