Olympic medalist and Nigerian athlete Ese Brume has won gold medal after triumphing in long jump event at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Brume who won a silver medal at the 2022 World Athletics Championship in Oregon few days before arriving for this year’s Commonwealth Games, blazed the trail and broke two records.
Brume had a no jump on her first attempt but bounced back right away to jump 6.99m to take the lead in the final and set a new Games Record.
She added another 6.99m and 6.96m in her subsequent jumps, as none of her opponents could match or surpass her thereby securing gold with a jump to spare.
Her last jump of 7.00m proved the difference at the games record, then with the 12th gold for Team Nigeria and a total of 35 medals.
The Delta state-born athlete had won bronze at the 2020 Olympics game.
Brume’s victory came few hours after Nigeria’s 4x100m women relay team won gold in similar athletics fashion.
Brume’s heroics also came on the same day that compatriot Tobi Amusan also set a new Games Record in the women’s 100m hurdles.
