After much back and forth management talks overnight and early Monday morning, Everton have eventually relieved manager Frank Lampard of his job, reports from England suggest.
This followed the Toffees’ 2-0 dismal defeat to West Ham on Saturday January 21, 2023.
The loss left the Merseysiders deep in the relegation zone in the English Premier League table amid a woeful run of form that has seen them go without a win in any competition since October.
As a matter of fact, Everton under Lampard have picked just one point after the 2022 World Cup against Manchester City, and have also crashed out of the FA Cup to Manchester United.
They’ve suffered damaging defeats by fellow strugglers Wolves, Southampton and West Ham over recent weeks, leaving Lampard’s position untenable.
Precisely, Everton are two points off safety and are in real danger of being relegated from England’s top flight for the first time since 1951.
And all the talk will now turn towards who they will get in to try to get them out of danger.
Club legend Leighton Baines, who is in charge of the Under 18s, and Under 21 head coach Paul Tait are most likely going to take charge of affairs in the interim, according to Mail Online.
Lampard leaves Goodison Park having won just 12 of his 44 games in charge of the club, with 23 losses in that time – leaving him with a win percentage of 27 per cent.
The 44-year-old arrived at the club at the end of January 2021 having been out of work for more than a year following his departure from Chelsea.
He took over from former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez under whose tenure Everton were nearly relegated last season.
Everton owners are yet to issue an official statement as at the time of filling this report
