Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged the flag bearer of Nigeria’s main opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) after Saturday’s primaries.
Atiku polled 371 votes to defeat his closest rival, Rivers State Governor, Nyesome Wike who polled 237 votes.
Former Senate President polled 70 votes, while Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel garnered 38 votes. Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi Stated got 20 votes.
Completing the list was former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim who got 14 votes, while Sam Ohabunwa and the only female aspirant Tariela Oliver got one vote each.
Atiku will now fly the PDP’s flag at the presidential polls next year.
