Following the exploits of Nigeria’s Women Basketball team at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France, Rena Wakama has emerged the Best Coach.
Wakama was named the best by the world basketball body, FIBA on Sunday evening.
Her emergence followed exceptional leadership which propelled D’Tigress to an unprecedented quarter-final finish.
The win secured the ladies a ticket to the knockout phase, becoming the first African team in history, men or women, to play in the Olympic quarter-final.
Before reaching the last eight stage, D’Tigress beat number world No. 3 Australia in their opening group game at the tournament.
Also, the team stunned Canada, ranked number 5 globally.
Though the United States claimed the gold medal, Nigeria’s remarkable performance, guided by Coach Wakama, captured the world’s attention.
Wakama’s priceless accolade provides a silver lining to Team Nigeria’s overall performance in France, which ended without a medal across 12 sporting events.
