The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday released the list of candidates for the November 6 Anambra governorship election, with the name of Prof. Charles Soludo, the supposed flag bearer of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) conspicuously missing.
While there was also no record of input for the candidacy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), INEC rather listed the names of Chukwuma Michael Umeoji as the governorship candidate for APGA, alongside Urogbu Obiageli Lilian as deputy governorship candidate.
According to INEC, it listed the s of Umeoji and Urogbu based on court order.
Recall, Soludo had emerged winner of the primary election conducted by the Governor Willie Obiano faction of APGA.
Defending the list, National Commissioner and Chairman Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, said the commission considered and took cognisance of the judgments/court orders served on it in relation to the primaries of the political parties and other processes leading to the election.
“In line with section 31 (3) of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) the personal particulars of the candidates will be published in the commission’s notice board in Awka, Anambra State while the names of the candidates, their gender, party, age, qualification and the Commission’s decision/remark are herein attached,” he said.
