Latest information reaching Heritage Times HT indicates that the entire delegation of Nigeria’s Super Eagles are currently on their way back home, after spending 16 hours at makeshift Al Abaq airport in Libya.
The Nigerian team had arrived Libya on Sunday evening, only to be kept at the airport without clearance by the Libyan authorities for 13 hours, a situation that prompted Super Eagles to decide on boycotting the scheduled matchday four of Africa Cup of Nations in Benghazi on Tuesday.
A source with the Nigerian team in Libya has now reliably informed Heritage Times HT that the crew of ValueJet chartered plane have finally accessed aviation fuel that will return the team back home.
According to the source, already the entire Nigerian players and officials have successfully boarded the plane and are expected to make the first stop over at Kano Airport, before proceeding to the Nnamdi Azikiwe international airport Abuja, then the last destination being Murtala Mohammed international airport, Lagos later on Monday.
He said the return arrangement was made by the Nigerian mission in Libya.
Earlier on Monday, Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface shared a photograph he tagged ‘Isakaba’ bus provided by the Libyan Football Association to convey the Nigerian team from Al Abaq to Benghazi on Monday morning, 16 hours after.
He wrote, “See Isakaba bus wey them bring come yesterday, Nobody enter ooo.
The Bayer Leverkusen player added: “See this dragon carry bus come after 16 hours. Come Dey video.”
The Nigerian delegates were forced to spend last night in dire conditions, following the opposition’s unsportsmanlike actions, who lost 1-0 in the first leg at Uyo.
