The Kaduna State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew in some communities in Kaduna South and Chikun local government areas with immediate effect.
According to the state government, the areas affected in Kaduna south include Barnawa, Kakuri, and Television while those of Chikun are Maraban Rido, Sabon Tasha, Narayi and Ungwan Romi.
This decision was made by the government following a Saturday’s break-in into certain warehouses in the two LGAs where youths carted away food items believed to be stored from the Covid-19 palliatives earlier distributed.
A statement issued by the state Commissioner for Internals Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan stated that security agencies have been directed to arrest and prosecute anyone found violating the curfew and those responsible for breakdown of law and order.
“Security agencies have further been directed to effect the arrest and prosecution of anyone found looting and destroying properties,” it stated.
While condemning what it described as concerted incitement being done on social media, the state government appealed to all communities to reject incitement and resist the attempt to create chaos and anarchy.
