President William Ruto has called on the church to support him with prayers as he undertakes a reconstitution of his cabinet.
Speaking at a church service on Sunday in Nyandarua County, Ruto emphasized the need for divine guidance in appointing new cabinet members to help steer the nation towards prosperity.
In his appeal, Ruto conveyed the importance of prayer for his government’s future success and the fulfillment of promises made to the Kenyan people.
He expressed his vision of transforming Kenya into a self-sufficient nation, free from dependency on loans.
Ruto stated that he will engage in extensive consultations across different sectors and political formations and other Kenyans at large.
The Head of State added that he has set up a broad base government that will assist him in accelerating the necessary, urgent and irreversible implementation of the programme that the state has.
He reiterated his commitment to broad consultations across various sectors and political affiliations to form a comprehensive government that will drive urgent and necessary reforms.
Ruto outlined key goals including reducing the national debt burden, increasing domestic resources, expanding job opportunities, eliminating governmental waste, and tackling corruption. These measures are intended to create a lean, efficient, and effective government.
He reassured that government operations would continue seamlessly under the guidance of Principal Secretaries and other officials during the reconstitution process.
“During this process, the operations of government will continue uninterrupted under the guidance of Principal Secretaries and other relevant officials,” he added.
On July 5, President Ruto officially inaugurated the Presidential Taskforce on Forensic Audit of Public Debt, appointing eight members. The task force is mandated to verify and reconcile the current public debt, assess the value obtained from loans, and ensure equitable and prudent financial management. The task force will serve for three months, starting July, 2024.
