Liverpool’s title hope was dealt a huge blow once again following a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Red’s boss Jurgen Klopp has stated that a top four finish is what they will now chase.
Manchester City thrashed defending champions in a thrilling Premier League encounter at Anfield to open a five-point gap over second-place team Manchester United.
Liverpool remain fourth on the standings with 40 points, a massive seven off leaders City. Goalkeeper Alisson made two blunders which cost his side in the encounter with Klopp saying it could have been down to cold feet.
Jurgen Klopp’s side has now become the first team after Chelsea, to lose three straight home league games the season after emerging EPL champions.
Chelsea were the first to record such an unwanted record over 60 years back. Jurgen Klopp says top four is now Liverpool’s ‘main target’ and suggests Alisson’s errors in 4-1 defeat to Man City could be down to cold feet.
“That is of course our main target, that is clear,” Klopp said when asked about a top-four finish via Sky Sports. “We will try everything.”
“There is enough games to play to secure that – but we have to win games and tonight we didn’t.”
On Alisson’s errors, which allowed City to add their crucial second and third goals through Ilkay Gundogan and Raheem Sterling, Klopp said: “You cannot hide them.
“It’s two [instances] where we didn’t give him a lot of options, especially around the first one. I think the second one, yeah, he just mis-hit the ball.
“I don’t know, it’s not a real explanation for it but maybe he had cold feet or something. It sounds funny but could be. But there’s still the opportunity to kick it in the stands.”
