Members of the British Parliament have proposed the setting up of an international panel to investigate the event of October 20 at the Lekki toll gate.
The proposal was made the debate of a public petition calling for sanctions against Nigerian government officials.

The Lawmakers who doubt the ability of the Lagos state panel of inquiry to effectively deliver justice, believed a panel made up of Human Rights Watch and other independent global human rights bodies should be set up.
They cited the continuous denial by the Nigerian authorities and the military, coupled with attempts by government officials to suppress the truth and intimidate critical voices as reasons for the call.
The lawmakers went on to enjoin the British government to stand in solidarity with young Nigerians and defend their rights to life and protest.
