Liberian President, George Weah, has insisted he will not stay in office beyond a second term.
His Chief of Staff, Nathaniel McGill, stated this during a press conference in the capital, Monrovia on Tuesday. Few days after Alpha Conde of Guinea won his third term reelection bid.
Weah, a football icon came into power in 2018 after previous attempts stonewalled and he is yet to finish his presidential term.
According to McGill, “It is not good for one man to be president for a long time”
“The president is not thinking about a third term.”
However, the brewing concerns in Africa regarding the possibility of aging presidents changing constitutions in order to bypass the stipulated term in office, speculations flooded the West African nation that the 54-year-old Weah would alter a December 8 constitutional referendum to extend his tenure.
