Tanzanian opposition leader, Tundu Lissu has urged his supporters to come out en-masse and cast their votes for him in the country’s upcoming election.
Speaking during his campaign in Tanga region on Wednesday, Mr Lissu said their “Huge turnout would send President John Magufuli home and restore democratic gains,” adding that his emergence as president will protect the interests of investors and boost economic growth.
The opposition leader who spoke at another rally in Lushoto, underscored the importance of voting, stressing that a huge turnout in the October 28th polls is necessary to secure the country’s future “which is at stake”.
Meanwhile, in Dar es Salaam, the Presidential candidate of Alliance for Change and Transparency Wazalendo (ACT-Wazalendo), Mr Seif Sharif Hamad, has accused the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) of “irregularly increasing the number voters” at the isles by more than 117,000.
According to him, findings by the party indicate that there were 448,533 eligible voters in Zanzibar, but the voter register contains 565,363 names.
Debunking the claims, ZEC’s Baraka Sunni said there was no foul play in the enrollment of voters, noting that the aggrieved party is welcome to study the register of voters on the 20th day after elections, in accordance with provisions of the law.
