It was an evening of humiliation for Manchester United, after Liverpool thrashed them 7-0 at Anfield on Sunday.
For the Reds, the match looked more like a training outing, as Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah, each scored two goals in an extraordinary performance by Jurgen Klopp’s side, before Roberto Firmino added the seventh as United descended so low few days after beating Newcastle to win the Carabao Cup.
The Cup triumph also meant that they ended their six-year trophy drought.
Also, Erik ten Hag’s side came into the game on an 11-game unbeaten run.
However, they were completely overwhelmed, conceding six second-half goals amid a raucous atmosphere on a never-to-be-forgotten night for Liverpool fans, as the club reignited top-four finish.
With the sailing and significant victory, United are have now moved to fifth, above captulating Newcastle.
They are also just three points behind Tottenham, with a game in hand.
