Two Nigerian-born forwards – Noni Madueke and Moses Simon sparkled in the English Premier League and French Ligue 1 as they ensured that their clubs posted victories.
While Madueke scored a hat-trick for Chelsea against Wolves in a match that ended 6-2 in favour of the former, Simon hit the net for Nantes versus Auxerre on Sunday.
It was Madueke’s first hat-trick in the Premier League since he joined Chelsea in 2023.
For his Manager Enzo Maresca, the victory ensured he became the first coach in the Premier League history to see his team score six goals in his first away game in the competition.
Similarly, Arne Slot’s first Premier League home game in charge of Liverpool ended in victory as the Reds continued their winning start to the season against Brentford.
Luis Diaz’s clinical 13th-minute finish on his 100th appearance for the club since joining from Porto in 2022 set them on their way.
Liverpool sealed the points when Mo Salah clipped home with his left foot, the Egypt forward’s second goal of the season.
In Spain, champions Real Madrid earned a 3-0 win over Real Valladolid in LaLiga as Kylian Mbappe made his Santiago Bernabeu bow without finding the net.
The French striker played at home for the first time in a Madrid shirt but was largely frustrated by Valladolid’s defence.
From Germany comes a report that Vincent Kompany got his Bayern Munich career off to a flying start with his team securing a 3-2 victory at Wolfsburg.
