A 40 year old man, identified as Nicodemus Nomyange, has set himself and his girlfriend, Shininenge Pam, ablaze in Makurdi, Benue state.
According to Benue State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Catherine Anene, Nicodemus had carried out the act at his girlfriend’s residence on Inkipi Street, High-Level area of Makurdi.
She said that an argument had ensued between them, adding that the cause of the argument was unknown.
However it was gathered that, Nicodemus who had abandoned his wife and kids, proposed marriage to his girlfriend who rejected the offer on the basis that he was married and she would rather marry a single man.
Nicodemus who was said to have been hurt by the rejection, went to Pam’s apartment, shut all the doors and windows and set the whole building ablaze.
Efforts to save them failed and they both died after sustaining various degrees of burns.
While Nicodemus died at the spot, Pam later died on her way to the hospital.
