Manchester City sealed their hopes of winning a quadruple this season with an emphatic 2-0 away victory over Everton in Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-finals.
Nigeria international Alex Iwobi came off the bench for Everton with three minutes left on the watch but could not prevent the damage from being done as two late goals from IIkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne handed the visitors a deserve win.
Pep Guardiola’s men started the game on a high note to put the Toffees under pressure but goalkeeper Joao Virginia was not saddled with as much task in between the sticks.
The Toffees had almost taken the lead in the first 45 minutes when Richarlison tried his luck with an overhead kick which went over the bar.
City found the breakthrough six minutes from the blast of the final whistle thanks to Gundogan who headed in a rebound after Aymeric Laporte’s shot was parried on to his path.
And in the 90th minute De Bruyne sealed the victory after he latched onto a through ball to blast it past Virginia.
The first quarter-finals played on Saturday, Southampton defeated Bournemouth 3-0 at the Vitality stadium.
The two other quarter-finals will be played on Sunday with Chelsea entertaining Sheffield United and Manchester United taking on Leicester at the King Power stadium.
