Former South African International Benni McCarthy is now the head coach of Kenya men’s national football team.
This followed his unveiling in a ceremony held in Nairobi, Kenya.
The former striker, who is also Bafana Bafana’s all-time leading goalscorer, was presented to the media amidst great anticipation.
Joining him on this new journey is Moeneeb Josephs, the ex-goalkeeper for Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates, who will serve as the goalkeeping coach for the Harambee Stars.
McCarthy, along with his technical team, has signed a contract that extends through to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations finals. Kenya has secured automatic qualification for the tournament as one of the co-hosts, alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
At 47, McCarthy brings a wealth of experience to this role, having previously managed Cape Town City and AmaZulu in the Betway Premiership. His most recent position was as a strikers’ coach at Manchester United.
McCarthy’s immediate priority is to guide Kenya in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, with upcoming matches against Gambia away and Gabon at home later this month.
Currently, Kenya sit fourth in Group F, accumulating five points from four matches and trailing group leaders Ivory Coast by five points.
