Lionel Messi broke Pele’s record of 643 goals for a single club after the Argentine scored in Barcelona’s 2 – 2 draw against Valencia at home.
The Argentine took his goal record to 643 after his spot-kick was saved by Doménech, but Alba was right on time to turn the loose ball back into the danger area, where Messi headed in from a yard out to draw level.
After the break Ronald Araujo was then on hand to fire the hosts into the lead but Maximilliano Gonzalez replied in the 69th minutes to pull Valencia back in contention.
Messi, who made his senior debut in 2004 has played his entire professional career at Camp Nou, having moved to Spain as a teenager from Newell’s Old Boys.
Messi’s record with Barcelona also includes 10 Liga titles, four Champions Leagues and a total of 34 major trophies.
