A Malawi Defense Force aircraft carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima and nine others has gone missing, according to a statement from the country’s presidency.
In the statement, Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Colleen Zamba, reported that the plane failed to land as scheduled, and all attempts by aviation authorities to contact the aircraft have been unsuccessful.
The aircraft departed from the capital, Lilongwe, at 9:17 am and was scheduled to land at Mzuzu International Airport at 10:02 am. However, it never arrived at its destination.
“As such, the Commander of the Malawi Defence Forces, Gen Valentino Phiri, has informed His Excellency Dr. Lazarus Chakwera of the incident. The president has since cancelled his departure for the Bahamas,” Zamba stated.
