The United Nations (UN) has warned that millions of people in Somalia would continue suffer the devastating effects of drought owing to severe lack of funds to tackle the natural disaster.
According to the UN, the situation in Somalia has not been courting the attention it deserves, owing to other crises in the world.
Following three successive seasons of poor rains, drought has affected 4.5 million people in Somalia.
But the UN says just 3% of the nearly $1.5bn (£1.1bn) it needs has been received.
It is worthwhile to note that Somalia is not the only country suffering severe effects of draughts as it is joined by neighbours Ethiopia and Kenya.
Asides drought, the three countries have been heavily hit by an invasion of locusts between 2019 and 2021 as well as the Covid-19 pandemic.
