In a collaborative effort with Spanish security forces, Moroccan police have successfully seized 1.488 tonnes (3,280lb) of cocaine.
The illicit substance was discovered concealed within banana boxes inside a shipping container aboard a vessel that originated from South America, with its destination marked as Turkey.
The seizure took place late Tuesday at the Tanger Med port located in northern Morocco.
Moroccan authorities suspect that the cocaine was being smuggled as part of a broader international drug trafficking operation, and investigations are currently underway to uncover further details.
This significant interception occurred just a day after authorities confiscated nearly 363kg of cocaine from a truck attempting to cross the Moroccan border with Mauritania.
Morocco, situated in northern Africa, has gained bad name as a crucial route for drug smuggling operations, facilitating the transportation of narcotics from South America to Europe.
