Morocco, a North African nation has entered the bid to host the 2028 Futsal World Cup.
This was disclosed by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) as Morocco’s national futsal team, which recently reached the quarter-finals of the Futsal World Cup in Uzbekistan were honoured during a ceremony held at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Sale.
President of the FRMF, Fouzi Lekjaa, praised the team’s performance and spoke about Morocco’s growing reputation in football.
Already, Morocco has secured the hosting rights for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and being named a co-host for the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.
Olympics Hosting Requests
Meanwhile, Egypt will bid to host the 2036 and 2040 Summer Olympics, with the country’s improving infrastructure and sports facilities key for a successful African bid.
This was revealed by the head of the African national Olympic committees association (ANOCA).
Africa has never staged an Olympic Games. Cairo last made an unsuccessful bid for the 2008 Olympics.
There are already several countries and cities interested in bidding for the 2036 Olympics including Indonesia, India, Turkey as well as Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Egypt has spent billions of dollars building facilities, stadiums and sports complexes in recent years as part of its plans to modernise the country.
The Egypt International Olympic City complex in the new administrative capital the country has been building east of Cairo since 2015 is expected to have a 93,900-capacity national stadium and 21 other sports facilities.
Los Angeles will host the 2028 Summer Games while Australia’s Brisbane is preparing to stage the 2032 Olympics.
