British Tennis player Andy Murray has been kicked out of the ongoing US Open in New York.
Murray lost to his old rival Grigor Dimitrov 6-3, 6-4, 6-1 inside the Arthur Ashe Stadium, the court upon which he won his first grand slam title in 2012.
In the 12th meeting between two veterans of the sport, and seven years after their last one, 19th seed Dimitrov registered only his fourth win over the Scot.
At 4-1 down in the third, he gestured to his support team that the match was over as a contest and the former world number one was proved to be right two games later as another attempt to challenge in the later rounds of a grand slam fell well short.
Murray, ranked 37th, has not reached the last 16 of a major since resuming his career after hip surgery in 2019.
Dimitrov, who reached the US Open semi-finals in 2019, will play German 12th seed Alexander Zverev in the last 32.
Murray has already indicated that he might not play for Great Britain in next month’s Davis Cup tie in Manchester.
