The acrimonious relationship between the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has been amicably resolved.
The duo recently clashed over a comment made by the Bauchi Governor that Fulani herdsmen should be allowed to carry AK-47 for self-protection.
The conflict was resolved in Port Harcourt on Tuesday following the intervention of the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike and his Adamawa State counterpart, Governor Ahmed Fintiri.
Speaking to newsmen after the reconciliation, Gov. Bala described the feud triggered by differences in opinions on herdsmen/Fulani profiling as very “regrettable”.
According to him, “We don’t mean to divide the country, to divide our people.
“We are still friends and brothers and we will move forward because most of those issues are fully resolved. Whatever misconception generated, that me and my brother, Ortom are having a problem or with anybody in Nigeria is not true.
“What happened was just an explanation that emanated from a larger Governors’ Forum that we spoke on the security of the nation and talked of the failure of security infrastructure which everybody knows is under the purview of the federal government.”
On his part, Governor Ortom thanked Wike and Fintiri for organizing the meeting which aimed at bringing him and the Bauchi Governor together.
The Governor who acknowledged that it was wrong for them to have engaged in such public outburst, promised to be better.
