Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA) has donated Gift items to widows of Air Force Officers to mark the 57th Anniversary of the 2021 Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Day celebration.
In a statement issued by the NAFOWA National President, Elizabeth Olubunmi Amao, the organization noted that the initiative was adopted because these widows are mostly absent in the statistics, unnoticed by national and local authorities, and mostly over looked by the civil society.
Mrs Amao further added that although Widows of fallen officers are celebrated on a daily basis, the event was to draw more attention to their plights as well as solicit public support.
“Our sisters are mostly absent in the statistics, unnoticed by national and local authorities and mostly over looked by the civil society. Their plights, travails and challenges go unnoticed by the generality of the society.
“The motto of our association is ‘Service to Humanity’ and our vision is to carry out programs and initiatives aimed at the less privileged in our society starting from the NAF Bases, their host communities and beyond.
“Our aim is to locate where there is need and step in, especially in the areas of Widows, Women and Youths empowerment. We are committed not to allow your plights to go unnoticed. We are determined to provide succour to you as best as we can.
“Though we celebrate you regularly, but today is a special day. At the end of the day, we would have drawn the public attention to your challenges. We hope that by so doing, many more will become positive influencers in one way or the other in reaching out to sisters and their children all over the nation,” part of the statement read.
NAFOWA also thanked the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao for providing all the necessary logistics, 053 HQ-NAF Camp Commander, Air Commodore CE Akpa and Spiritual fathers who were present.
