The explosion of a gas cylinder at a hotel in Nairobi’s South B area was reported to have injured at least four workers on Saturday.
The explosion happened at Frizzle Bites Restaurant at about 3.30 pm. as the staff there were busy preparing food.
Although, some customers were injured, they managed to escape the scene without any serious harm.
The explosion also caused damage to the restaurant.
Police said they had confirmed the explosion was caused by a gas cylinder that was apparently in use at the hotel.
Officers from the Anti-Terror Police Unit were called to the scene and declared the cause to be a gas cylinder.
However, Nairobi Police boss Adamson Bungei said the injured were in a stable condition in hospital.
“The workers have also confirmed it was a gas cylinder explosion. No need to panic,” said the police boss.
Local media reports that on the main street where the incident occurred, activities were halted while crime scene investigators searched the area, while other experts were called to the scene to assess it for further action.
This is the latest incident to happen in the city amid calls for agencies tasked with looking into the standards of the cylinders.
In August this year, at least one woman was killed and three other people were injured in a gas cylinder explosion in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
At that time Police reports indicated that the middle-aged woman was hit by an object as she escaped from the scene of the explosion.
