Napoli’s San Paolo Stadium has been officially renamed after Argentine soccer great Diego Armando Maradona.
Diego Maradona suffered a cardiac arrest and died aged 60 at his home in Tigre, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina on 25 November.
The World Cup winner who led the Serie A side to major triumph during his active years played at the club between 1984 to 1981.
Making the revelation on Friday, the Naples town hall in a statement, hailed Maradona as “the greatest footballer of all time who, with his immense talent and magic, honoured the Naples jersey for seven years, offering it two Italian league titles and other prestigious trophies, and receiving, in exchange, the eternal and unconditional love of the entire city”.

Napoli players wore the iconic number ten for a minute’s silence in a Europa League game the day after Maradona’s death.
And in the Serie A game against Roma on Sunday, the team played in a jersey resembling the Argentine colours, designed as a tribute to Maradona.
